Evergreen: a new brand in quality retirement living

Today’s retirees are seeking quality of life, in a quality environment.

However, there is a distinct shortage of high-quality retirement living environments in South Africa, with waiting lists sometimes as long as 20 years for the country’s more sought after retirement villages.

Meeting the demand for quality retirement homes, South Africa’s first national community of retirement villages, Evergreen, has been launched by Amdec Property Development.

With Evergreen Retirement Lifestyle Villages planned in some of the most desirable locations in South Africa including Cape Town, Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, Amdec will be bringing quality retirement living to retirees throughout South Africa.

Chairman of Amdec, John Wilson, who is himself at retirement age, explains that conversations with peers and friends often turn to the changes and challenges that retirement brings. “There is a definite need for upmarket villages providing the full-spectrum of active lifestyle facilities, lock-up-and-go security, and a range of healthcare services and the option of assisted living,” Wilson says.

Wilson believes that those entering their retirement years are looking for an environment that offers a number of key qualities. “Health, tranquility and social involvement are the foundations to an active life that maintains its interest, relationships and connectivity to the world.”

Evergreen seeks to meet all these needs, and more.

While the Evergreen Villages offer purchasers financial security, physical security and comprehensive health care services, they also provide state-of-the-art facilities and a variety of recreation options.

“Experience worldwide indicates that many people prefer to remain close to their family, friends, doctors and the like when retiring. Amdec Property Development is developing Evergreen Villages which easily connect retirees with their families, communities and important health and everyday facilities,” stresses Wilson.

“Evergreen Villages are stylish environments where all residents are able to live actively and independently for as long as possible, enjoying the best quality of life throughout their retirement years. Amdec is committed to providing retirement lifestyles, facilities and services that enable retirees to live the life they've always wanted,” says Wilson.

Each village is designed to create a balance between privacy and community, independence and assistance, technology and the natural environment. Evergreen Villages are purpose-developed to the highest possible standards, providing 5-Star facilities and services that secure quality of life.

Wilson explains that with all amenities and support available on an independent or assisted living basis, you can choose how you would like to live a socially active and independent lifestyle, and enjoy the reassurance of choosing the level of health care you need.

Evergreen Villages offer a wide choice of quality accommodation. Within each state-of-the-art village residents can select from a variety of spacious, architect-designed homes with all the benefits of independent living, or beautiful apartments where the daily chores are taken care of. Home comforts typically include satellite TV, broadband internet access, laundry and cleaning services, and communal dining.

Safety and security is a keen concern for retirees and Evergreen Villages provide around-the-clock manned security, electrical fencing and CCTV cameras. With 24-hour patrols and emergency assistance available, residents are able to enjoy life without worry.

Beautifully landscaped gardens typically feature meandering walkways, which lead from tranquil gazebos to melodic water features and outdoor activity areas.

Each village is an active community in its own right, providing the opportunity to interact, develop interests and discover new opportunities. Village Centres are ideal gathering places to meet, dine, and enjoy events, as well as to entertain guests. They offer superb leisure facilities including lounges, gyms, bars and beauty salons, to coffee shops, dining rooms, games rooms, heated indoor swimming pools, putting greens, bowling greens and croquet lawns.

Each Evergreen Village offers an integrated approach to lifestyle healthcare with support services that are responsive to the changing needs of retirees, within a supportive, continuing care community.

In every location, a highly regarded specialist healthcare provider will be contracted to each Evergreen Village. In the Western Cape, for example, CPOA (Cape Peninsula Organisation for the Aged) is the specialist healthcare provider to Evergreen Villages. CPOA manages 22 retirement villages and has 55 years of experience in providing residents with the highest standard of care and nursing.

Specialist healthcare providers deliver comprehensive and individualised care for residents. Residents decide in consultation with the experienced staff, what support and services they need, as well as how and when these are delivered. Permanent on-site nursing staff, a doctor (by appointment) and specialist consulting rooms comprise part of the facility and care packages range from a basic domestic service to around-the-clock nursing.

Further financial security lies in the fact that homes and apartments will generally be offered on a Life Right basis, in terms of the Housing Schemes for Retired Persons Act, which is the most widely practised and requested retirement purchase scheme worldwide.

Evergreen Villages are designed, developed and owned by Amdec Property Developments. Amdec’s property portfolio currently has a market value in excess of R4.5 billion. Amdec has been developing quality properties for some 20 years, and has come to understand and cater for life’s stages by designing, developing and providing superb solutions to the challenges of living, working and playing in today’s world.

Amdec is joint owner of Melrose Arch in Johannesburg’s leafy northern suburbs. The company is also behind the retail lifestyle development Westlake Lifestyle Centre as well as residential developments The Paddocks in Constantia, Normandy Village in Plumstead, Fisherman’s Village in Muizenberg, Kei Apple Lane in Constantia and The Summit in Higgovale.
