ANTIQUE HARDWARE AND LIGHTING
Roland Erickson owns Antique Hardware and Lighting which has become an institution in the Cape Town CBD. Currently located in Church Street, Roland – who is renowned for his work countrywide – salvages old antique lights and fittings from just about anywhere and has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to the intricacies of period lighting. He often consults on-site and is knowledgable on everything from lighting a Victorian-style bathroom to an art deco banking hall. With a vast array of original catalogues at his disposal and collected over many years, Roland can recreate just about anything and also custom-makes lights according to clients needs from new materials. However as the Church Street area becomes gentrified, an assortment of coffee shops and residential conversions have taken over, and since Roland needed bigger premises with a larger workshop anyway, he’s now moving. He has chosen The Biscuit Mill on Albert Road in Woodstock – an old biscuit factory that’s being restored and renovated, with ground floor units specifically designed for ‘theatre in retail’ mixing shop frontage with the manufacturing process.
