Wine Estate Fleur du Cap releases new richly layered Chenin Blanc
Fleur du Cap has just released a new vintage of one of the stalwarts in its popular Bergkelder range, the lightly wooded Fleur du Cap Chenin Blanc 2009. This richly layered, lightly wooded Chenin Blanc comes from a proud lineage of award winning Chenin Blancs and is an exceptionally versatile wine ideal for every day enjoyment. “The wine teems with aromas of honey blossom, ripe melon and guava with a touch of oak, whilst the palate flaunts abundant flavours of butterscotch and vanilla with an excellent balance between fruit and wood flavours,” is how winemaker Pieter Badenhorst describes this new vintage. Pieter considers Fleur du Cap Chenin Blanc 2009 a great food wine that offers wine lovers real value for money. “This is a very versatile wine that can be drunk on its own and still work absolutely brilliantly with food. The wine effortlessly stands up to strong flavours and rich pasta dishes, as well as spicy Thai food. The truth is, Chenin Blanc is like a Swiss Army knife - you can do basically anything with it,” explains Pieter. South Africa is one of the leading producers of Chenin Blanc and according to the South African Wine Industry Information and Systems (SAWIS), it is still the most widely planted white grape variety in South Africa with the majority of the vineyards having been established for over 40 years. “Chenin Blanc production in South Africa is more than 300 years old and we can be proud of what we have accomplished with this varietal. It is one of the true workhorses of the South African wine industry and taking your time in producing a great Chenin Blanc is just giving back what it has given us,” Pieter added. Fleur du Cap Chenin Blanc 2009 is available at leading wine outlets at around R40 per bottle. For more information, visit www.fleurducap.co.za.
