Property Profile: Steve Richmond

Property industry veteran Steve Richmond has been appointed as the new Principal of Fine & County’s Atlantic Seaboard branch. He brings extensive local and international property industry experience to the company.

Originally of UK origins, Richmond relocated to Cape Town in 1990. He practiced as an estate agent in the Atlantic Seaboard area for a number of years before deciding to return to Europe in 1999 to take up a post with a leading real estate company in Southern Spain.

In 2005 Richmond tapped into the property gold rush occurring in Dubai through accepting the position of Head of Sales with a privately owned property development company.

During the four years Richmond spent in Dubai he expanded the sales team to 50. Collectively the team achieved sales in excess of $2bn through marketing mixed-use and commercial property projects.

“Dubai was a lot of fun and extremely profitable,” says Richmond. “My team and I were in the right place at the right time and it was a tremendously exciting period both professionally and personally.”

Following his successful stint in Dubai, Richmond and his family returned to Cape Town in 2009. He chose to align himself with Fine & Country given the company’s extensive local and international footprint, excellent reputation and broad property portfolio.

Says Linda Erasmus, CEO of Fine & Country SA: “We have high hopes of the association with Steve. He is experienced and professional and we believe he will boost our Cape Town market presence significantly.”

Fine & Country currently enjoys representation in Cape Town via its offices in Constantia, Fish Hoek, Blouberg, Franschhoek, Strand, Stellenbosch and Paarl.

Richmond is working to increase the number of agents working for him in Green Point and has plans to expand Fine & Country’s footprint by establishing offices in Camps Bay, the City Bowl and the V&A Waterfront.

Moreover, in line with Fine & Country’s objective of targeting high end property pockets, he is concentrating his efforts on luxury properties in Green Point, Sea Point and Camps Bay.

Of the current market, Richmond says that although movement at the top end of the market is still somewhat sluggish, enquiries are increasing and things are definitely “looking up”.

Evidence of the upswing is manifesting across the board. Fine & Country’s Plettenberg Bay office recently sold two properties for R20m respectively whilst the Paternoster branch sold a property for an area record price of R6,5m.

Steve can be contacted on: 021 439 6524 or 072 380 1969. The Atlantic Seaboard Fine & Country branch is located at shop no 5, Winston Place, 65 Main Road, Green Point.
