Art Plascon invests in emerging artists
The Dance Umbrella recently approached Plascon for paint for their new premises in Newtown, giving the building a much-needed fresh coat of paint. The company provides a platform for emerging artists and enjoys the support of various sponsors as well as a number of countries through their art programmes and grants. “Dance Umbrella has been around for 20 years and we are always grateful to have this kind of support from businesses to help foster young talent,” says Georgina Thompson, CEO of the Dance Umbrella. As part of their on-going corporate social investment (CSI) programme, Plascon has donated hundreds of litres of paint to various organisations looking for assistance. “We believe in nurturing and supporting members of Business Arts South Africa where possible, and this is one of the ways we are giving back to young talent in South Africa,” says Patrick Seager, Plascon’s CSI and PR Manager. The Dance Umbrella serves as an open platform for performances by youth and community groups, young choreographers, commissioned work by professional practitioners and new choreographic creations. The main objective of the Dance Umbrella is the development of contemporary dance in this country and creating a space for new work. “We believe in the young talent South Africa has to offer and want to ensure they get as far as possible and it is for this reason that we supplied paint for their new building,” says Seager.
