Ceratech Heat Barrier Coatings

High-tech research undertaken by agencies like NASA often produced technology which benefitted the man in the street.
When NASA’s spacecraft returned to earth their nosecones would heat up to such a degree that the whole craft could literally vaporize from the intense thermal build-up. They solved the problem by lining the affected areas with ceramic tiles. The tiles were made of minute compressed ceramic spheres which proved to be the most effective of all heat barriers investigated by their researchers.
This breakthrough technology was eventually passed on to the coatings industry and one of the most useful applications to emerge was a roof and wall coating, named Ceratech.
Ceratech acts as a barrier between a high heat source and a low heat area. Typically, in summer it reduces the ingress of radiant heat from the sun through the roof and into the building. In winter the reverse applies and Ceratech will reduce the egress of radiant heat generated inside the building from escaping to the cold atmosphere outside.
Ceratech simply combines the ceramic technology of NASA with a high-quality acrylic coating system to create a paint that can be applied to any surface. Mostly used on roofs, it is often applied to the walls of buildings where heat from external sources (mainly the sun) creates an environmental problem. Once applied the coating does not require any further maintenance for 10 years or longer.
Reductions in the heat load on a metal roof can be up to 45% on a hot summer’s day. This translates to a reduction of about 6 – 8 ° C in the interior ambient temperature. This reduction means that in many cases the airconditioning can be turned down or dispensed with entirely.

With ESKOM about to push up tariffs by possibly 35%, the simple expedient of coating a roof with Ceratech will dramatically and immediately reduce (or even eliminate) the need for airconditioning. In the case of very large roofed areas – warehouses, factories, shopping malls – the savings on power consumption are significant and the cost of the application against the long-term savings ensure that a Ceratech application is an important option in the quest for creating a greener environment.
For technical reasons Ceratech is available in white only.
Ceratech Heat Barrier Coatings are manufactured in Cape Town and are available throughout SA through distributors.
