Fractional Ownership
Zorgvliet Private Residence Club Offers Partnership and Ownership Options

Zorgvliet Private Residence Club offers partnership and ownership options in new Greater Mokolo Nature Reserve.
Bought as nine farms 7 years ago by the Zorgvliet Group, Ka’Ingo private reserve in the Waterberg Biosphere of the Limpopo Province has been nurtured into a pristine big five eco-tourism entity. An historic agreement signed by Zorgvliet CEO Mac van der Merwe and Heidi Behr, founder of Mokolo River Nature Reserve, earlier this month saw the birth of the Greater Mokolo Nature Reserve, doubling the size of each component to a total of 16 000 hectares.
Behr has been living in the Bushveld managing her reserve for 15 years; she has adopted orphaned elephants from the Kruger Park and established the first white rhino in the area. Nick Callichy, General Manager at Ka'Ingo, established the big five at Ka'Ingo and has established a number of sustainable conservation projects there. Cheetah, leopard, sable and clean buffalo projects are running while the heritage conservation of rock art at Ka’Ingo is also being managed.
Says Van der Merwe: “Since buying Ka’Ingo we developed a close relationship with Heidi, and we decided to drop the fences between the two properties, along the river to develop one ‘Greater Game Reserve’. This new private big five reserve will form a hub for eco-tourism and conservation, but is so secluded that there will be only one game viewer vehicle per 2500 hectares. The 6 km Mokolo River corridor will be opened up for the first time in many years, and the game will be able to roam the river bed and adjacent plains.”
The proposed date of actual removal of the two fences along the river is 11 July 2009, and the entire process has been meticulously planned. Various research projects will track integration of wildlife of the two reserves.
Birth of the Greater Mokolo Nature Reserve will see the Mokolo riverbed becoming a pristine game-viewing area. Says Van der Merwe: “At present with fences on both sides of the river animals are kept out of this corridor. The currently unused Ka’Ingo River Lodge was deprived of integration with the river. Our latest Ka’Ingo Business Plan addresses redevelopment of the River Lodge as an extremely upmarket facility in line with the best in the country. The present nine rooms will be reconstructed into five suites and the camp will incorporate a boma overlooking the Mokolo River and an extended lounge and sundowner deck, at an anticipated cost of R8 million.”
The Main Lodge at Ka’Ingo consists of 12 spacious luxury rondavels, all with full bathrooms, flat screen TVs and air-conditioning, with an impressive reception area leading onto the garden and pool, with open lounge, fire pit, dining and bar area complementing the five-star ambiance.
The 12 luxury thatched lodges on the ridge at Dinkweng Safari Camp (set in the north-east part of Ka’Ingo, and fenced off to keep it family-safe) all have incredible, uninterrupted views across bush as far as the eye can see, and boast spacious, double-volume interiors with three double bedrooms and large en suites. The living space is open-plan with double doors opening out onto the entertainment deck with plunge pool, braai and fire pit. Dinkweng includes a Zorgvliet Spa, bar, shop, cycle hire and a communal area with swimming pool and braai facilities. A golf driving range and tennis court are planned.
Shareholders are not only privileged to own their own piece of bushveld haven, but are also able to participate in the ongoing conservation efforts. Says Van der Merwe: “Now for the first time in South Africa variable shareholding options are available focusing on different client segmentation and needs. At Dinkweng safari camp, fractional ownership in self-catering three bedroom units through the Zorgvliet Private Residence Club starts at R120 000 for a week’s perpetual vacation investment. At Ka’Ingo main lodge camp shared usage agreements in fully serviced luxury bush lodging rooms are on offer from R60 000 per week for a 10-year period. At Ka’Ingo Private Game Reserve five share blocks of 10% are available to the serious asset investor, including the lucrative buffalo and sable antelope breeding programme, at R9.75 million apiece plus proportional contributions to the River Lodge development and breeding programme.”
Ka’Ingo and Dinkweng are only a 3-hour drive from Johannesburg and 1.5 hours from Sun City on good roads. There is also a safe 1.2 km landing strip that can accommodate turbo prop aircraft on the property, which is a 35-minute flight from Lanseria Airport.
Van der Merwe spends time at Dinkweng with his family twice a month and clearly feels very passionate about the area and its conservation. “This is an asset that can only appreciate,” he says. “Its appeal reaches far beyond the borders of South Africa. There is no other like it.”
Want to try out the lifestyle? Sampler visits to Ka’Ingo private reserve main lodge are available at R2950 per couple all inclusive (breakfast, dinner and game drives) and at Dinkweng safari camp from R3000 per day per luxury three-bedroom lodge for two couples (including breakfast, dinner and game drive).
