Bathrooms Rub a dub-dub in the tub
Your children’s bathroom should have an element of playfulness in its design and bath time needs to be a fun time for the whole family. To create a playful atmosphere team neutral tiles with bands of glass mosaics in bright blue, fresh green or a soft turquoise. “Colourful tiles such as mosaics bring energy to the bathroom, add texture and grabs the attention,” says Kate van Niekerk, marketing manager at Tile Africa. Co-ordinate the colour theme with towels, face cloths, bathmats, hooks and toothpaste holders in shades of the same colour as the tiles. Tile the walls in addition to the floor as tiles are exceptionally hard-wearing, hygienic and easy to clean. Separating the shower, bath and basin is useful when children of varying ages are sharing a bathroom, enabling an older child to bath or shower while the other is supervised using the basin. Opaque shower doors can be fitted when one child requires more privacy. Alternatively, half walls can be added if the design of the bathroom allows for this. If space is not a problem in the bathroom, why not choose a family sized spa bath that will provide plenty of enjoyable moments in the tub. To reduce the clutter, install beautiful and practical vanities and to ensure there is adequate hanging space for towels for everyone in the family, fit double-rodded towel rails. Two basins and a large mirror are ideal for a children’s bathroom, as this will prevent the children squabbling over space when it comes to brushing teeth, cleaning faces and washing hands. Kate van Niekerk provides the following safety tips when it comes to designing a bathroom for the young ones: If the bath and shower have tiled edges, make sure these edges are finished off with a round border. Kit out your children’s bathroom with the right bathroom ware and thus ensuring a fun bath time experience for the whole family.
